Her body was found in a nearby field five days later. P.O.D.’s aim is to raise funds for the family of a 17-year-old murder victim who hailed from the groups’ Riverside neighbourhood in California.

It will all take place on September 18. Details below.

Well, that is it for ROSE FUNERAL! They’ve been dropped from Metal Blade Records, and their dreams are now over. You can throw away the t-shirt:

“Hey guys, it’s been a long run for us, but it’s time to call it quits. We have lost yet another guitarist, and we have been dropped from Metal Blade Records. We realize that going further would just be beating a dead horse, so we’re done. Thanks to everybody for the great memories. It’s been a blast.”

Update: Thanks to some wily commenting here on SMN, we’ve been alerted to the fact that ROSE FUNERAL are in fact still a band. Alas. T-shirts and dreams still both full intact.

Sorry for the false info you guys seen on our blog saying “We broke up” In fact, that is not the case. We are hard at work, about to enter the studio and record our new album.  Fuck hackers.

Opeth mainman Mikael Akerfeldt has exclusively told Classic Rock that his long-mooted project with Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree is now well under way.

“I got together recently with Steven at his house, and we wrote a new tune straight away,” says Akerfeldt. “Of course, with the two of us involved it was 10 minutes long. And it came out so well that we started working on a second one as well.”

However, it now appears that Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy will not be involved, as was expected.

“To be honest, there’s just no room for drums on what we’ve done so far. I called Mike up, and he was cool about it. He’s got so much going on anyway, and I’m sure we will work together in the future.”

It’s still early days for the as yet unnamed project, but expect an album next year. And that’s also the plan for Opeth.

“Right now we’re on a break. But I’m writing new songs, and we hope to have an album out in 2011.”

Jane’s Addiction have parted with bassist Duff McKagan, after just five months working together.

In a statement, the band comment: “We wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record,” the band said via email. “We love the songs we worked on with him — and the gigs were a blast — but musically we were all headed in different directions. From here Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him all the best”.

Duff McKagan’s Loaded have just finished a new, as yet untitled album with producer Terry Date.

Sebastian Bach believes he knows why Axl Rose is constantly late onstage.

Blabbermouth reports that the former Skid Row singer, a close friend of Axl Rose, says: “Everybody has all these theories as to why he acts the way he acts. And there’s no big mystery. He tells me the source of all of the insanity — it’s his voice. It’s his job to sing like that, and sometimes that sound is hard for him. And a lot of singers, you know… To sing in that range is just not an easy thing to do. And he does what he can, and if it takes him 45 more minutes to warm up his pipes so he can sing Sweet Child O’Mine”.

Bach will support GNR on their upcoming UK tour.

By Chris Grigg (Woe)

Hello, Deciblog! My name is Chris Grigg and I am the voice (literally and figuratively) of a band called Woe, for which I handle vocals, guitar, songwriting, lyrics, and poor business mistakes. We have a new album coming out in the US on October 12 via Candlelight Records titled Quietly, Undramatically, which will see its European release in February of next year. This (and the boatload of cash shoved down their throats for the plug -- thanks, guys!) seems like as good a reason as any for me to contribute to this wonderfully foul corner of the web for the next few weeks. Those who know me will happily tell anyone that talking or writing about myself is one of my favorite things to do, so I'm glad for the opportunity and will do my best to not disappoint.

To immediately disappoint, I must reveal that unless your name is Blake Judd, being a black metal god is not all coke and strippers and party ev-er-y day-ing. For me, it's quite the opposite. I work full time doing nerd stuff -- servers and firewalls and networks, oh my -- and have a relatively normal life during the day. I have an apartment, a girlfriend, two cats, bills -- normal shit. I keep myself extremely busy with different tasks -- playing music, recording bands, web application development, and so on... Still, with the new album's release pending, every day holds the promise for something interesting or, at the very least, different, and for that I am grateful.

Though today has been sort of quiet (we'll get to that later). It was an eventful weekend. In addition to Woe, I play in a few other bands, not the least of whom is fellow Candlelight artist Krieg, for which I play drums. Saturday found Krieg playing with Nightbringer and Profanatica in beautiful Clifton, NJ. It was my fourth or fifth show with the band, made special by way of having an actual practice the morning of the show. Krieg is a unique animal, comprised of one N. Imperial acting as dictator/producer with different people contributing on each album and live event. Nobody is ever "in" Krieg because it isn't really a normal band but it's not really appropriate to say that each individual doesn't have influence on it. At this show, my goal was pretty simple: play hard, play fast, fuck up minimally. First two were accomplished -- I destroyed a brand new stick, a Vic Firth Rock (like a 2B but bigger), with a strong hit to the ride -- and fucked up a new song royally, though this line-up has become quite good at working around fuckups in such a way that few if anyone will notice. Intense sets by Profanatica and Nightbringer followed. It was good to see such a strong crowd and I'm glad that the overt neo-nazi element present at so many past North Jersey shows has either gone further underground or just grown up. My show experiences are always somewhat frenzied. I don't get nervous before playing but don't exactly like mingling, don't like socializing with strangers or acquaintances all that much, and would much rather show up, play, and leave than participate in the social aspect of the metal FUNderground. It's about music for me and it's always a bit of a strain to sit around and wait for a show to end.

Today is Labor Day so I am off from work. I awoke to small excitement: two interview requests, two new very reviews for the album. Let me confide something in you, Deciblog: every front-person of every band I know is a self-obsessed maniac who Googles their album name constantly once its promos go out. I am no different, though as a professional computer guy, I'm probably a bit better at it than most. The summer is a slow time for reviews and holiday weekends are worse so two new reviews on the same day is exciting. You can read them here (Metalunderground.com) and here (The Metal Register).

(Anyone who thinks that the new album's production is crappy or inappropriate is fucking stupid. Quote me.)

I banged out the interviews quickly, or at least quickly by my standards. One of them will appear on one of my favorite blogs, which you can read at http://www.lurkerspath.com/. Their questions were good and I think I gave fair, interesting answers, so I look forward to seeing it online as well as reading their review of the album.

"True black metal."

Beyond that, it's been a quiet, undramatic day. In addition to music and work, I do some web development and spent last night and most of today working on an overdue project to help my friends at Candlelight automate a tedious, time-consuming process. It's been a good challenge, a good excuse to learn some more javascript, but I'm happy to be getting close to what I think is a finished draft of version 1. Some updates to phillymetal.com, which is exactly what it sounds like, will come next. Phillymetal.com is exactly what it sounds like, something that I launched a year ago to help our area's metal scene spread the word on shows and network a bit. It's a totally selfish creation. Woe played with Ludicra and Hammers of Misfortune on their first East Coast tour, a fantastic show that received almost no promotion and had attendance to match as a result. One year later, show attendance is better than what it was, there are more shows and active bands than ever, and I have expanded the code to allow for rapid deployment of sites for other cities. That means that if you live in an area with lots of bands but nobody knows what's going on, you should send me an email.

Exciting, huh? Yeah, I know. Tonight will find me finishing the master of a demo by the fantastic local band called SADGIQACEA, who I promise you will be a household name if they can continue the quality presented on their demo. Trust me, I know these things.

As you can see, being in Woe isn't all rock'n'roll excitement but it is a lot of avoiding others, sitting alone, pushing myself to be more than I am, more than the world around me. If that isn't true Satanism, I don't know what is. Till next time...

via The Deciblog on 9/6/10

So my friend was telling me about some on-stage banter from Tom Araya while he's drunk, but I haven't found it. What I have found is seven minutes of Paul Stanley saying whatever the fuck Paul Stanley wants to whomever Paul Stanley wants to say it to.

Metal Inquisition put together this video with a bunch of related photos that do not make the video funnier, so I suggest just listening as Starman hoots (literally hoots) and hollers a bunch of stuff about fucking women, how they love the fans from the top of their banging heads to the bottom of their glittery platforms and then asks everyone to register to vote so they can "Rock and roll all night and party every day." I mean, this man is the Macguyver of segues. Give him an empty tube of toothpaste, a leaky battery, two handfuls of sand and Paul Stanley will turn it in to the intro for "Beth."

But the important thing is, can anyone find audio of Tom Araya shit-can wasted and talking about playing music "hard and fast" or something like that? I know one of you probably has this as your ringtone so let's hear it.

The Greenhornes

As the sun rose each day at All Tomorrow's Parties, which took place over the weekend at Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello, NY, coffee temporarily replaced beer as the festival's must-have beverage. During the morning and early afternoon hours, a general grogginess took hold, and even at 2:45PM., when the Greenhornes played the main stage Sunday, it felt to some like 6AM.

"This may or may not be good for your hangover," lead singer and guitarist Craig Fox said at the outset, knowing full well what fans were up to the night before.
