Year Long Disaster are a trio based In Los Angeles – and they’ve a growing reputation. Now, with the release of second album Black Magic: All Mysteries Revealed, they provide today’s Track Of The Day. Check out all the latest Tracks Of The Day.

The band started in 2003 when guitarist/vocalist Daniel Davies, son of Kinks legend Dave, teamed up with bassist Rich Mullins from Karma To Burn. Although initially their relationship was more sybaritic than musical, meeting drummer Brad Hargreaves of Third Eye Blind gave the pair a a sense of vision and focus.

That was in November 2004, following which the trio became Year Long Disaster, released an EP and eventually signed to Volvom Entertainment. In October 2007, their self-titled debut album was put out. Following this, with many predicting big things, the band toured with the likes of Motörhead, Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Clutch and The Cult.

Now with the release of the new album, the band have lined up UK shows:

April 19: Newcastle O2 Academy

April 20: Glasgow Cathouse

April 21: Manchester Academy 3

April 22: Sheffield Corporation

April 24: Birmingham O2 Academy

April 25|: Bristol O2 Academy 2

April 26: London Relentless Garage

April 27: Southampton Talking Heads

Smashing Pumpkins are looking for both a new bassist and a new keyboard player.

The four-string vacancy has come up because Ginger Pooley, who toured with the band in 2007/8, now wants to concentrate on family matters. Temporarily, Mark Tulin of the Electric Prunes will fill in.

So, how do you go about becoming the new Pumpkins bassist or keyboard player? Easy. Send your background info (including age, a CV of any bands/recorded work), photos and performance web links via email only, either to pumpkinsbass@gmail.com or pumpkinskeys@gmail.com.

Note: only musicians with video clips can be considered. Oh, and if you’re a keyboard player, the band want someone in the Jon Lord or Rick Wakeman mould.

Five Finger Death Punch, Iced Earth, Suicidal Tendencies, Napalm Death and Skindred are among the top attractions.

Move over Scooby-Doo – there’s a Kiss TV comedy show on the way!

The legendary band have teamed up with E1 Entertainment to develop a series of half-hour comedy programmes, aimed at the kids’ market.

Says Gene Simmons: “Kiss continues to be the juggernaut of licensing and merchandising, from Kiss M&M’s to Kiss Dr Pepper. Kiss is a band, but also the only music BRAND. Continuing in our 35-year history of going where no band has gone before, we are proud to partner with E1. Like all things Kiss, we intend to make this a very special show for our fans.”

Let’s hope it’s better than the 1978 film Kiss Meet The Phantom Of The Park, which was unintentionally hilarious! (Whaddya mean? It’s a cinematic milestone! – Kiss Ed.)

For further info, go to www.kissonline.com

Incidentally, we mentioned Scooby-Doo for a reason. Did you know that Gene Simmons made a ‘guest appearance’ in a 1978 episode? Well, check out The Diabolical Disc Demon here.

…And you can see an excerpt from Kiss’ brilliant Phantom movie here.

Hats off to Karina Rucinque. She correctly identified last week’s logo as that of the band Nasty Pig Dick. For her troubles, Karina wins a copy of Arsis’ new album, Starve for the Devil, signed by the band, and an Arsis poster that is also signed by the band. Congrats, Karina! March is Metal Month continues [...]

Virtually every Sayid episode we’ve ever seen has delved into some form of his past and inner gnarliness, so it only makes sense that last week’s “Sundown” blasted us with all sorts of action, violence, and brutality. Viewing the episode for substance, though, we were only handed little nuggets of answers to some very [...]

Ye asked… and ye shall get answers. We solicited reader questions for frontman Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquillity — whose new album We Are the Void comes out today – and in turn Mikael has answered them for you in equal helpings of funny and serious. Your questions, his answers; does he ever get mistaken for [...]

Axl and I have something of a fascinating with hard pop-metal band Depswa. Or more like I have a serious infatuation and Axl just humors me. But we’re both at the very least happy that Depswa are finally about to release their second album Distorted American Dream; it only took them seven years! Depswa have the [...]

Back in January, Mayhem announced a tour with some ridiculously awesome support acts, including Ludicra, Krallice, and Tombs; then, in true Mayhem fashion, they cancelled the tour just a couple of weeks later. And I think pretty much everyone had the same reaction: “Ludicra, Krallice, and Tombs should just tour without Mayhem.” Because it was [...]

Once-upon-a-long-time-ago a band called Rhapsody were partially responsible for getting me back into metal after a hiatus that lasted through the early part of the nu-metal fad. It was the heyday of Napster, and my college roommate and I were downloading non-stop on our totally awesome T3 connection. Inevitably we landed on ’80s metal cheese, [...]

The release of David Lee Roth’s isolated vocal track from “Runnin’ With the Devil” was an Internet goldmine resulting in one of the most entertaining soundboards in the history of ever and countless mash-ups, some good and some not-so-good. While the surfacing of what appears to be Randy Rhoads’ isolated guitar tracks from “Crazy Train” [...]

On October 26, 1984, John McCollum killed himself after having listened to Ozzy Osbourne’s Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, and Speak of the Devil.  While playing the latter, McCollum put a gun to his temple and killed himself. Two years later, his parents filed suit in California against Ozzy and his label, CBS [...]

The release of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Option Paralysis, their first album in more than two years, is just weeks away. If that’s not cause for rejoicing amongst metalheads everywhere, than nothing is. Few bands have pushed the envelope or influenced the scene this past decade as much as DEP, and Option Paralysis continues that [...]

I enjoyed a handful of tracks off of Silent Civilian’s 2006 debut, Rebirth of the Temple; I seem to recall “Bitter Pill” having a pretty cool guitar solo and a catchy chorus. It was certainly better than front man Jonny Santos’ other, more famous band, Spineshuck. So we were stoked to hear what SC came [...]

Somebody call Antonin Skullia. Nergal has been formally charged with insulting Roman Catholics after he called the Catholic Church “the most murderous cult on the planet” and destroyed a copy of the Bible on-stage during a 2007 concert (video above). This is possible because offending someone with regards to their religion is apparently a criminal act [...]

The reactions to yesterday’s post about the Rival Schools reunion record were much to my surprise mostly positive, which I guess could just indicate that those who didn’t know the band chose to skip over the post. But I’m guessing that even more of you were/are fans of Quicksand, Walter Schreifels’ main post-Gorilla Biscuits squeeze. [...]

DragnForce have parted ways with vocalist ZP Theart “due to insurmountable differences of musical opinion.” I’m not sure what qualifies as “insurmountable differences of musical opinion” in DragonForceland; did Theart want the music to get even faster? Slower? More keyboards? Fewer guitar solos? A horn section? Who knows, and, more to the point, who cares? Metalheads [...]

I’m patting myself on the back today. I opened a link from a trusted publicist about a band called Native, and after pressing play the first thing I thought was “Gee, this drummer sounds a lot like These Arms Are Snakes’ Chris Common.” And while Chris Common is unfortunately not the drummer for Native, when [...]

Exactly two people will be really psyched to know that MetalGF and I celebrated Ratturday in full force this past weekend whilst riding in the Vincemobile, a ravishing 1988 Honda Accord (for full mood effect… yeah… that’s the reason for the shitty car…).
